Congresswoman Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, has been elected to chair the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, a national research and public nonprofit for the advancement of the Black community.
Sewell, the first Black Congresswoman from Alabama, has been a member of the Congressional Black Caucus in the U.S House since 2011 and co-chairs its Voting Rights Task Force.
“It is with great pride and a profound sense of responsibility that I take on this new role as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and I thank the Board of Directors for instilling their trust and confidence in me,” Sewell said in an announcement made Friday. “As Alabama’s first Black Congresswoman, the mission of CBCF to advance the needs of the Black community is deeply personal to me, and I look forward to leveraging this role to help develop the next generation of Black leaders and scholars.”
