Rep. Terri Sewell announced recently that she has reached out to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), urging them to address railroad blockages in the seventh district.

“As you know, blocked crossings create extended delays for commuters, hinder emergency vehicle access to neighborhoods, and create an unacceptable safety risk for residents trying to find alternative routes around the blocked crossings," said a part of a letter sent to the administration.

"This is unacceptable… We must all do more to reduce the frequency and length of blocked crossings until we can implement a long-term solution. Moreover, the rail companies must be held accountable as the federal government invests billions of dollars to modernize America’s rail systems.”

An announcement from Sewell said that FRA Administrator Amit Bose has met with her before to address possible solutions to the issue. The announcement also mentioned that Sewell secured provision from President Joe Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that could help as well.
