Renovation of the St. James HotelĀ with 55 rooms along the Alabama River is almost complete, and developers say it should open in mid-spring.Ā

Jim Lewis ofĀ RhaglanĀ Development said they were aiming to open in time for the Jubilee festivities in March, butĀ it will likely beĀ mid-springĀ as they wait for the flagshipĀ Hilton to approveĀ their fulfillment of the brand’s requirements.Ā If it stays on the current schedule, bookingĀ for roomsĀ should open at the end of February.Ā

The restaurant and hotel will open at the same time, for locals and visitors, he said.Ā

ā€œWe are setting what will be the new standard for Selma when it comes to food and beverage,ā€ Lewis said. ā€œWe want to become a destination dining option for Selma.ā€
