Water safety remains a critical focus for park officials across the state. Following a recent drowning at Oak Mountain State Park, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) and the Alabama State Parks Division issued a statement extending their "sincere condolences to the family and friends of the park visitor who lost his life," while expressing gratitude to the Pelham Fire and Police Departments for their rapid emergency response.
State officials emphasize that preventing these types of tragedies requires a partnership between park management and visitors. According to ADCNR:
Prioritizing Safety: "Visitor safety is ADCNR’s highest priority."
Infrastructure in Place: Alabama State Parks utilizes designated swimming boundaries, safety ropes, warning signs, life vests, and buoys specifically designed to prevent accidents.
Visitor Responsibility: Visitors are strongly urged to adhere to all posted regulations and utilize only designated swimming areas.
