A study by TurboDebt has found that Wilcox County had the greatest increase of home ownership over the past four years.

“While it's encouraging to see significant increases in homeownership rates driven by economic recovery and state initiatives in many counties, it's equally important to address the challenges faced by regions experiencing declines,” says Josh Stomel, Co-founder of TurboDebt.

The study cites county health rankings and found that Alabama had a 1% increase, which equated to 72,569 new home owners.

The highest performances in home ownership were:

1. Wilcox: 14%

2. Monroe: 11%

3. Clay: 6%

4. Hale: 6%

5. Randolph: 6%

The bottom 5 performing counties were:

1. Bullock: -11%

2. Perry: -3%

3. Marengo: -3%

4. Macon: -3%

5. Montgomery: -2%

“The high cost of living in urban areas underscores the need for continued efforts to make homeownership more accessible,” Stomel said.
