You may have heard of her as “Summer the Baker” or as the rising star from the St. James Hotel. Either way, if you have yet to experience her baking and her dream, now is the time.
Summer Sturdivant’s dream is for no one to miss out on enjoying baked treats because of health reasons. She has developed a cinnamon roll that is not only vegan but is also made from all organic ingredients. It’s also incredibly delicious. She’s even planning to bake treats that are diabetic friendly and gluten free.
Summer began her passion with baking at an early age with the famous Easy Bake Oven. She enjoyed baking for her family and watching the smiles when they ate her treats. But Summer quickly discovered some of her family had health concerns that prevented them eating her treats. Healthy alternative baking was born in a child’s heart.
From early childhood to young adulthood, Summer had the greatest cheerleader in the world, a big brother who encouraged her and pushed her to pursue her passion and allow others to enjoy the tasty fruits of her dream. In June 2021 Summer received a phone call that shifted every aspect of her life as she knew it. Her brother had unexpectedly passed away, and Summer was not only devastated; she was angry. She had to make a choice - drown in sorrow or lean into her brother's encouragement and put her passion to work.
Summer resigned from her job and went into isolation for months, drawing strength from God, leaning on her faith and building her business. “Summer the Baker” was born. While filling orders for customers who heard about her by word of mouth and from her Facebook page, Summer received a special phone call. After sampling one box of Summer the Baker’s cinnamon rolls, the St. James Hotel wanted more, and a new partnership was born. Summer now holds pop ups once a month on Saturdays at the hotel. Guests and local workers from surrounding businesses love her baked goods.
Summer wants to make baking inclusive for all of Dallas County. She has a vision to provide ingredients with instructions for specialty baking so everyone can enjoy the experience. Imagine a mother or father of a child with dietary restrictions that prevent them from eating baked sweets. In Summer’s vision, the parent and child get to make a fun mess in the kitchen while they bake.
To experience this great love, all you have to do is place an order @SummerTheBaker or visit her in person at a pop up one Saturday at the St. James Hotel.
It will, however, come with one task. You will have to enjoy a delicious warm, gooey, organic and vegan cinnamon roll. Yes, it is really vegan.
So how are they so good? Because they are baked with Southern love, encouragement from a brother and Summer’s CEO – God – oversees every step of baking.
