Authorities have arrested a suspect that they believe is connected to a recent shooting at Tuskegee University that resulted in one death and others being injured on Saturday night.

According to WSFA, the suspect has been identified as Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery. He is being held at the at the Montgomery County Detention Facility for another law enforcement agency.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, a homecoming celebration was being held at Tuskegee University when multiple gunshots occurred at around 1:40 a.m. 16 people were injured, while Latavion Johnson, 18, was killed.

University officials reportedly confirmed that Johnson was not a student of the university.

Police say that they found Myrick leaving the scene and that he was discovered to be in possession of a handgun with a machine gun conversion device, though he is not charged with using it or firing it at the scene.

Macon County Sheriff André Brunson believe that there may be more than one suspect due to the rate of fire during the incident.

Anyone who has additional information is encouraged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or upload digital files related to the shooting at fbi.gov/tuskegeeshooting24.
