A suspect was arrested after a student at Alabama State University (ASU) in Montgomery was killed on Sunday morning.

According to WSFA, police responded to the 1600 block of Interstate Park Drive before 11 a.m. where the victim was found and later pronounced dead.

She was identified as Ava Walters, 20. She was a resident of Montgomery according to the Montgomery Police Department and was from Fort Lauderdale, FL, said ASU officials. She was majoring in Health Information Management.

Jalil Bivens, 22, also of Fort Lauderdale, was identified as the suspect and now faces a murder charge. He has been placed at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

ASU officials released statements recently on Walters' death.

"On behalf of Alabama State University Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, alumni and students, I extend my deepest condolences to Ms. Walters' family, classmates and all who knew and loved her, " said ASU President Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr. "There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing a loved one, but please know that the entire Hornet Nation stands with you during this difficult time."

The case remains under investigation.
