Theo Ratliff Center building

Theo Ratliff Center.

Tomorrow Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) will announce $2.7 million in funding for a FEMA shelter in Demopolis.

A press conference will be held at the Theo Ratliff Activity Center on 306 1st Avenue at 10:30 a.m.

The Black Belt News Network first reported the funding for the shelter at the Ratliff Center in August. The $2.7 million grant from FEMA, administered through Alabama EMA, was originally planned to go toward upgrading the shelter in the bottom floor of the Demopolis Civic Center. But the aging building couldn't reach the rigorous FEMA codes and was switched to Ratliff.
