A Thomasville man is dead after a shooting at Mi Mexico restaurant in Thomasville Saturday night.

Thomasville Police say they responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Mi Mexico restaurant on Highway 43 at 10 p.m. and found Henry Christopher Howard, 26, on the pavement suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say they found the suspect, Hector Hugo Duran Gutierrez, 51, shortly afterward under the back of the restaurant. Gutierrez was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Clarke County Jail.

Gutierrez, whom Thomasville police say is a foreign national with a Thomasville address, was charged with murder and discharging a firearm into a dwelling or business. The suspect is a former employee of the Mi Mexico restaurant.

The incident is still under investigation.

Thomasville police asked the community "to keep the Howard family and the Thomasville community in your prayers as we all mourn this tragic loss."
