Three people were killed in a shooting early Saturday morning at American Deli on U.S. Highway 80 in Selma, according to Ettice Brickus, chief of the Selma Police Department.
The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. and there were no other injuries.
Brickus said it was an isolated incident among individuals who were familiar with one another and it is being investigated.
"This is not something that I want the public in general to be fearful of," Brickus said.Â
The chief said no details are being released about what led to the shooting, and the department is waiting to release the identities of the victims until it is confirmed they have accurate information on names.
Brickus said the department plans to provide additional information during a press conference or through a press release next week.
Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Selma Police Department.
American Deli, which is open 24 hours, was the site of a fatal shooting in June 2024 when a Selma man was killed and four others were injured. The incident occurred at a similar time of 3 a.m.
City Councilwoman Jannie Thomas, whose ward includes American Deli, had asked for stepped up patrols around the restaurant since it is open all night.Â
