The Town of Silas in Choctaw County has received a $125,435 grant to improve its walking trail.
“Recreational trails, like this one in the town of Silas, are an ideal way to exercise, enjoy nature and the outdoors and spend times with family and friends,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “I am pleased to announce this grant.”
The grant was awarded through the Recreational Trails Program, which originally granted the funds to build it in 2009, according to an announcement from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
The 880-foot long trail is located adjacent to Silas Town Hall and will be resurfaced after suffering damage from deterioration and tree roots. Drainage issues will also be addressed.
Silas has pledged $31,359 in local funds.
“ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in this project that enhances the town of Silas and has become part of its charm,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
