Farmers and ranchers who applied for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Discrimination Financial Assistance Program or DFAP is being warned of scammers trying to collect payments after its closure.

Intended to done only once, the program closed permanently on July 31 and there will not be another application window.

However, this has not stopped scammers from taking advantage and contacting applicants to trick them into collecting payments in exchange for filing a new application. Anyone who has received messages from these people are urged to disregard them.

Advice on checking DFAP applications can be found here.
