The "Kwanzaa Walk for Kujichagulia, the Principle of Self Determination" event that was scheduled to be held at the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery has been rescheduled due to bad weather to a date to be determined.Â
A press conference will be held at the steps of the capitol by several groups including the Save OurSelves Movement for Justice and Democracy, the Alabama New South Coalition and Black Lives Matter Alabama.Â
The press conference will be followed by the walk to the Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall's office building.
This is in response to a threat that the Attorney General made to sue Montgomery for renaming a part of Jefferson Davis Avenue to Fred Gray, a civil rights attorney active during the voting rights movement in the 1960s. Â
According to media reports Marshall threatened to fine or sue the city under the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act, which was signed into law by Gov. Kay Ivey in 2017.Â
