On March 1, Walton Theater will present a showing of “Soul Doctor” in celebration of Black History Month.
“Soul Doctor” is a Broadway musical with music and lyrics written by Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and David Schechter. Inspired by Carlebach’s own life, the musical tells the story of Carlebach and his family fleeing Nazi Germany to settle in New York City.
The story centers around Carlebach meeting jazz singer Nina Simone, a black civil rights activist. They find that they have a common love for music and then begin a collaboration, playing at venues to promote equality.
The show will begin at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. Walton Theater is located at 1000 Ave. in Selma.
