Wares Ferry Road Bridge in Montgomery has closed until further notice due to structural damage that will need to be addressed with repairs, said an announcement from city officials.

The bridge located approximately 900 feet north of Wares Ferry and McLemore Drive has apparently suffered damage from overweight vehicles over time, which now poses a potential safety issue.

"A detour will be in place to help maintain traffic flow," said the announcement. "We appreciate your patience as we work swiftly to restore access and ensure public safety."

A detour route can be found here. Updates on the progress of repairs may be found on www.montgomeryal.gov.
