Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) will celebrate 60 years and hold a special naming ceremony for a student center on May 28 at 10 a.m. 

The event is titled, “A Legacy Continues: Naming the James M. Mitchell Student Center & College 60th Anniversary”. 

“This anniversary represents far more than a milestone — it reflects the lives transformed, careers launched, and communities strengthened through Wallace Community College Selma,” said a press release from WCCS. “As we honor our past and celebrate the naming of the James M. Mitchell Student Center, we also reaffirm our commitment to the future generations who will continue this proud legacy.”

The school was founded in 1966, according to the press release. 

Selma Mayor Johnny Moss III, Alabama State Senators Bobby Singleton and Robert Stewart Jr., Board of Trustees Member Llevelyn Rhone, and Alabama Community College System Chancellor Jimmy Baker are anticipated to be in attendance.

Parking will be available in front of the Hank Sanders Technology Center and behind the gymnasium.

WCCS is located at 3000 Earl Goodwin Parkway.
