The Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis has opened its emergency room after a period of renovations.Â
The facility is a $5 million investment originally slated to open in July. It is a member of the UAB Health System and boasts wider space, as well as more capacity.Â
The hospital’s new Emergency Department will feature 10,000 square feet of renovated and additional space and new exam rooms, triage area and waiting room. The ED also will have specialty areas for psychiatry and orthopedics. Read more BBNN coverage on the ED here.
Rep. Terri Sewell toured the facility when it opened. She also toured the proposed site of an Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences in Demopolis.
"I am so proud to have worked with this hospital over the years to support the health and well-being of our rural communities," she said on her Facebook page. "This expansion is a big win for the residents of West Central Alabama!"
