Wild pigs cause extensive damage to farm in Wilcox County, says agriculture journal

Wild pigs have caused quite a bit of damage to a farm in Wilcox County, says an article by the agriculture journal, agweb.com. 

Carl Jackson and C.J. Jackson are a father-son duo that work Double J Farms in Camden where they raise corn and soybeans, as well as cattle. But despite their efforts they are losing crops and some livestock. 

They say that wild pigs are breeding in large numbers and intruding in their fields where they root for seeds and tear down corn stalks. They dig holes that cause calves to fall in and die. 

Deer have also contributed to the damage. Though they tend to be small in size they also have a large population and are known to eat corn stalks. 

According to the article the area has become a haven for wild pig breeding since they were introduced in decades past primarily to kill beavers but also for the purpose of hunting. 

The farmers have had to pay large costs due to the loss of crops and the means to try and keep as many out as possible.
