The City of Montgomery has named the winners of the 2023 Voices in Black History Month Speech Competition.Â
The competition had local students research an influential figure of Black history and then dress up as them and present a monologue.Â
In first place was Zachary Beasley II portraying Garrett Morgan. In second place was Jayla Jackson portraying Victor Hugo Green II portraying Garrett Morgan. And in third place was Conner Dantzler portraying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The first place winner received $200, the second place received $100 while the third place received $50. Â
