A woman from Montgomery was sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of a conspiracy involving stolen mail and bank fraud.Â
According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson Rhashema Shackleford, 37, was sentenced on April 1.Â
During the trial Shackleford admitted to being part of the crime from August 2022 through June 2023 where she and her co-conspirators reportedly stole checks to alter them or use them to create counterfeit checks in order to be deposited into their own accounts.
32-year-old Laportia Webster and 48-year-old Otis Daniels were part of the scheme, said the statement. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were stolen as a result.Â
Daniels is now serving 27 months while Webster has yet to be sentenced.Â
Shackleford pleaded guilty in September of 2025. She has been ordered to pay $376,679.95.
