Work started on Highway 80, County Road 41 intersection; engineer says be prepared for delays

Work has begun on the project to improve the intersection of Highway 80 and County Road 41.

Dallas County Engineer Heath Sexton said there will be times over the next few weeks that traffic will be rerouted, which could cause delays. The dates and times will be posted in plenty of time for motorists to be aware and make any necessary adjustments in their travel.

The project will realign the intersection to create an actual four-way as opposed to the offset that it is now. A left turn lane will be added to Highway 80 west. These improvements will make the intersection less time consuming and much safer.

Sexton said the construction team has laid new water lines and fiber optic communications cable for AT&T and now are excavating the “muck” so they can put in the gravel that will form the foundation for the new road section.

As for a completion date, Sexton said there are many variables, especially the weather. “I think we’re doing this at a good time,” Sexton said. “It’s traditionally dry this time of year, and that area holds water when it rains. So, we’re just hoping for good weather.”
