We are still nine months from the Republican Party Primary, but it appears the contest is set for the race for the Alabama Attorney General. Incumbent Attorney General Steve Marshal is term-limited from running again and he himself has his own campaign for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator Tommy Tuberville. There are three candidates running for AG - Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey, Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell and Katherine Robertson, current Chief Counsel for Attorney General Steve Marshal.

There may be others that jump in the race and Democrats may nominate their own candidate, but these three are the ones to watch. These candidates are already crisscrossing the state on the hunt for votes. It is expected that there will be millions of dollars poured into this race from donors inside and outside the state. Plus, there will be a lot of activity from political action committees trying to influence this election.

Attorney General’s around the country have banded together to file litigation to effect policies and procedures emanating from Washington DC, making the position even more powerful. And Alabama needs a strong leader to partner with law enforcement because of the violent crime that is plaguing the state. Finally, Alabama must have an attorney general that will take on the failures of the current parole board to make public safety and the rights of crime victims a priority.

So watch as these three candidates battle out to serve as the state’s top prosecutor.
