Today is the first day of Selma Housing Authority (SHA) taking applications for their Housing Choice (Section 8) Voucher Program with a deadline set for June 3. 

All applications will have to be submitted virtually and can be done by visiting www.selmahousing.com and clicking "Apply for Housing". 

"The housing choice vouchers program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market," said a press release from SHA.

"Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants can find housing, including single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments."

SHA noted that participants can choose any housing option meeting program requirements and that the selection is "not limited to units located in the subsidized housing projects."
