Demopolis loses to Thomasville in Tigers matchup at home

The crowd that gathered under a clear night sky at Demopolis High School Sept. 25 discovered that the Thomasville tiger is a different breed than the River City tiger.

Thomasville defeated Demopolis 48-34 in the nonconference game.

The Demopolis offense delivered a performance that would have been lethal against many opponents. Demopolis gained 350 yards, mostly in the air. Two touchdowns on 70+ yard passes and runs were things of beauty.

Quarterback Whit Goodwin threw for 295 yards and ran in two touchdowns, and receivers Jordan Cherry and Christopher Taylor generated 132 yards and 127 yards respectively, according to statistics from the Blue Heat Network crew. Malik Gray and Aidan Burns played a good game.

But the Thomasville Tigers, led by eighth-grade phenom back Tyson Davis, generated 496 total yards of offence. Davis alone generated 289 yards and made four touchdowns.

Demopolis was only able to force a punt from Thomasville once in the game, despite excellent effort from Will Compton and Reshawn Robinson among others.  

Demopolis was outmatched the entire game, although they played better on both sides of the ball in the second half. Thomasville was ahead 27-7 at the half. Demopolis closed the gap to 13 points at one point in the second half, but Thomasville ran the ensuing kick off in for a touchdown, breaking the back of the home Tigers.

The Demopolis Tigers, now 2-3 for the season and 2-2 in regional play, will meet the Sipsey Valley Bears at home Oct. 2 in an important regional game.
