Joseph and Ross Jones of Valley Grande win Wednesday Afternoon Bass Tournament

A hard fishing afternoon did not stop Joseph and Ross Jones. They won the last Selma Wednesday Bass tourney with 14.07 lbs. They won big fish too with 5.45 lbs.

July 6 was another installment of the Selma Marina Wednesday Afternoon Bass Tournament. This time only nine boats participated.

Cory Ingram is heading up this year’s tournaments, which happen every other Wednesday. He said this particular Wednesday afternoon the fishing was tough. “It was a pretty tough day of fishing,” Ingram said. “Some people lost some fish.”

Warm water may be part of why the fishing is so hard. “(The fish) are a lot lethargic,” Ingram said. “They don’t want to bite near as good as in the past. I don’t know why. Seems like it’s hard to catch the numbers.” But the hard fishing did not stop Joseph and Ross Jones of Valley Grande. They won the last Selma Wednesday Bass tourney with 14.07 pounds. They won big fish, too with 5.45 pounds.

Ingram and all the anglers said they would like to see more boats competing on Wednesday afternoons. A group of spectators had gathered to see the weigh in. One spectator said in the past the Wednesday afternoon tournaments had 30-plus boats competing. If you like to fish for bass and would like to compete, the next tournament is Wednesday July 20.

Ingram said if you need information, call him at 334-412-9406. Anglers wanting to compete can just show up at the Selma Marina. They launch at 4 p.m.
