The Morgan Academy varsity baseball team upped its record to 7-2 on the season in recent action at home with wins over Lowndes Academy and Meadowview Christian School and a one-run loss to Southern Academy.
On March 4, the Senators defeated Lowndes Academy 8-4 with 14 hits and with Barron Frazer back in the lineup after suffering a torn ACL during football season.
Frazer rejoined the team in “grand fashion,” Head Baseball Coach Paul Thomas said. He said Frazer hit “a towering homerun over the scoreboard in right field in his second at bat.”
Frazer also added a single later in the game. Several other Senators had multiple hits, including Speedie Pernell, Cade Henderson, Thomas Clay Atchison and Aiden Fonsetto. Fonsetto and Atchison each had two RBIs.
Fonsetto went six and two-thirds innings, striking out nine Rebel batters. He surrendered four runs on eight hits with only two runs earned. Trevor White relieved Fonsetto to preserve the win for Morgan.
Thomas said, “I can’t express how happy I am to have senior Barron Frazer back in our lineup. Hopefully, it won’t be long before he can begin giving us some innings on the mound, but right now having him back swinging the bat is going to help us offensively.”
Morgan Academy lost to Southern Academy by a single run 14-13 on March 6, but they rebounded to beat Meadowview Christian School on March 7 by a score of 14-4.
The Senators pounded out 10 hits led by Pernell, who had three, and Rhett Thomas, who had two. Clifton Smith started on the mound for the Senators, giving up only two runs on two hits and striking out five. Frazer made his return to the mound for the Senators, throwing one inning in relief.
The Morgan Academy junior varsity is 5-3 on the season.
