Morgan Academy wins opener against Wilcox Academy

Morgan Academy Senators got the 2021 football season off to a winning start Friday night by defeating the Wilcox Academy Wildcats 46-22 in a non-regional contest at home.

Senior quarterback Andrew Thomas completed 17 of 24 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for two touchdowns. Junior running back John Allen Ingram (Hollywood) gained 111 yards on 18 carries. And junior wide receiver Rhyne Williams had 10 pass receptions for 107 yards.

Defensively, senior Trey Jones had 10 tackles for the Senators, including three solo, seven assists and a sack; senior Alston Moring seven solo tackles; junior Allen Michael Creech had seven tackles, including six solo and one assist; and Ingram had an interception.

“The kids did a great job. It was a lot of fun,” said Morgan Academy head football coach Danny Raines following Friday’s contest. He said, “I’m excited for them to perform so well. It was also a great atmosphere here at Morgan.”
