For the first time in five tries, the Sipsey Valley High School Bears defeated the Demopolis High School Tigers in an offensive showcase that featured 13 touchdowns between the two teams.

Demopolis never led in the game, but they tied the score five times. After the Bears missed a PAT on their last touchdown late in the fourth quarter, the Tigers had a chance to win the game by a point if they could get a touchdown and PAT. They drove deep into Bear country, but a pass into the endzone fell incomplete as the clock ran out with a final score of Sipsey Valley 48, Demopolis 42.

Demopolis gained 563 yards to Sipsey Valley’s 604 yards. Sipsey Valley’s success came despite losing their star player, Isaiah Bennett, early in the game.

Both sides scored on the majority of their possessions. Demopolis made some critical stops to keep themselves in the game, but it wasn’t enough. The Tigers missed a great chance to score when the Bear defense forced them to turn over the ball on downs deep in Bear territory.

The Demopolis offense was led by quarterback Whit Goodwin and ground gainers Aidan Burns, Jordan Cherry, Braylen Wallace and Malik Gray. On defense, Demopolis was led by Will Compton, Jalen Thurman and Emonte Charleston.

With the loss, Demopolis is 2-2 in region play, so they must win two of the next three games to be in the playoffs. The Tigers go on the road to play Shelby County High School on Oct. 9 and Selma High School on Oct. 16 before playing Montevallo at home for homecoming on Oct. 23.
