Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) released a video on Wednesday in which she advocates for further funding of the Black Belt's health centers, especially for Rural Health Medical Program, Inc. (RHMPI)Â
In the video she introduced Keshee Smith, who is the CEO of RHMPI. She mentioned that Sewell had visited Selma recently to present a check for mental health services at the center.Â
"The importance of community health centers - we are the safety net in the state of Alabama to take care of the underserved and underinsured individuals in our community," Smith said.Â
She went on to say that RHMPI serves six counties in the Black Belt and has seen approximately 8,000 patients thanks to funding from the Human Resource and Services Administration or HRSA.Â
"Well, I'm just happy that we're here today because we're at the end of the year, and it's all about the funding for the year 2025," said Sewell. "And so I am just grateful that we have such an amazing community health center in [RHMPI], and that it's based in Selma.Â
