Vaughan Regional Medical Center and a Tennessee-based kidney care company are opening a new dialysis clinic on Highland Avenue in early December.

Vaughan Kidney Care will offer onsite hemodialysis and home hemodialysis to people experiencing end-stage renal disease. Hemodialysis is a procedure where a dialysis machine and a special filter called an artificial kidney, or a dialyzer, are used to clean the patient’s blood, according to the National Kidney Foundation.

Vaughan Kidney Care is located at 1360 E. Highland Ave. in the Selma Center shopping area across from Selma Mall, Vaughan announced Tuesday. Long-time community nephrologist Dr. Kent Taylor from Vaughan Nephrology will serve as the center’s medical director.

The center is a partnership of Vaughan Regional Medical Center and Innovative Renal Care based in Franklin, Tennessee. IRC operates 230 dialysis centers in 25 states serving about 15,000 patients, according to their website.

“Vaughan Regional is thrilled to join forces with Innovative Renal Care in our shared mission to offer superior kidney care to our local community,” Vaughan CEO J. David McCormack said. “This partnership enables us to meet the needs of the people in our community needing dialysis care with services close to home.”

Innovative Renal Care CEO Nick Mendez said, “Our model of care allows patients to get expert dialysis services while facilitating access and convenience to all other care needs provided through Vaughan.”

The clinic will “significantly enhance patient outcomes and overall quality of life for people with end-stage renal disease in Central Alabama,” Mendez said.

Vaughan Kidney Care will serve dialysis patients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information or to request a tour, contact Clinic Manager Jamie Garcia at jamie.garcia@innovativerenal.com.

The clinic is currently recruiting for several positions. To apply for a job visit careers.innovativerenal.com.
