Selma City Councilwoman Miah Jackson is scheduled to announce plans to run for mayor of Selma in the 2020 election in a press conference Wednesday morning.
A press release issued Tuesday says Jackson will make the announcement at Lannie’s Bar-B-Q on Minter Avenue at 10:30 a.m.
The statement said as City Councilwoman, Jackson has worked hard to resolve the city’s issues, but she believes there’s more to be done, which is why she is “stepping up to run.”
Jackson will be joined by family, community leaders, and supporters to share her announcement, including husband Michael Jackson, who is district attorney for Dallas County. She has four children.
Jackson has represented Ward 3 on the Selma City Council since 2016. She currently serves as the executive director of Dallas County Court Services, where she works with individuals involved in the criminal justice system due to mental health or substance abuse issues. She is a graduate of Selma High School and Amridge University.
No other candidates have announced plans to run for the mayor seat in 2020, including current Mayor Darrio Melton.
