A recent drug bust has yielded the first heroin arrest in Selma in over ten years, according to the Selma Police Department.
The arrest came after Selma PD Fugitive Apprehension & Special Tactics (FAST) conducted a no-knock search at Utah Street. The suspect had been under investigation Selma CID and Narcotics Unit when FAST entered and began searching.
Inside the suspect, identified as Timothy Brown, 34, was found with Inez Woods, 36, both of Selma. An elderly woman and two toddlers were also found.
Brown and Woods were detained as officers searched the mobile home where they found marijuana and two separate types of schedule II amphetamines. They also found that he had been manufacturing “a variety of narcotics,” the department stated in a press release.
Among the narcotics found was heroin, which authorities said had not been found in Selma until recently. They stated that north Alabama, as well as counties north of I-20 have experienced a rash of heroin arrests.
“Fortunately, until today, the Selma community has been spared the scourge of heroin that has destroyed so many lives in Alabama and the United States. Today’s discovery of heroin appears to be the first heroin arrest in Selma in over a decade,” commented the press release.
Woods was charged with distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, endangerment of a child by chemical substance, as well as possession of marijuana in the second degree. She was processed into the Dallas County Jail and is being held without bond.

The elderly woman was found to not involved in the crimes and the children were removed from the home.
“The possession and distribution of heroin in our community worries me and it’s my sincere hope it’s an anomaly,” commented Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier. “However, that’s probably wishful thinking. Unfortunately, it appears heroin, which is often laced with deadly fentanyl, has emerged as a new threatening drug.”
