Sunbelt Forest Ventures holds ribbon cutting for high-tech sawmill

Local, state and international officials attend ribbon cutting for Sunbelt Forest Ventures high-tech sawmill in Selma.

Sunbelt Forest Ventures, a high-tech sawmill which represents a $30 million capital investment in the area, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, Nov. 18 to officially mark the start of operations on a 50-acre site in the South Dallas Industrial Park in Selma.

According to the company, the mill is designed to manufacture components for wood pallets from Southern Yellow Pine. At full capacity, it will produce 100 million board feet annually. And while currently at 25 employees, the mill will employ as many as 52 employees in year two of operations with a second shift.

The sawmill project was completed with support from PGS (Palettes Gestion Services) Group, a leading producer of sawn timber for pallets in France and Spain and PalletOne, America’s largest wood pallet manufacturer. And PGS Group officials led the Sunbelt Ventures team in sawmill design, installation and operations.

The Selma and Dallas County Economic Development Authority and Pioneer Electric also assisted Sunbelt Forest Ventures in site selection and opportunity assessment.
