ASE Credit Union in Selma held a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 1 at the location of a new bank branch on Citizens Parkway.

Board Member Sharon Mills said the project has been three years in the making, but construction of a new branch building is finally under way.

Interim CEO Shannon Watkins said the branch was devised with input from residents and staff.

We’ve been listening to the members here and the staff here as to what it is they’ve needed here in Selma, she said. “We hope everybody will be here for the ribbon cutting and get to see the drive through and the drive-up ATM.”

Those are two amenities the current building didn't have.

Watkins also told the crowd there will be a coffee bar in the new building because “members hang out here” and four benches out front “because the members show up here before we open.”

The new building will be in the field in front of the current ASE building. Construction should be completed within a year and will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting, Mills and Watkins said.
