Demopolis leaders on Thursday will celebrate the naming of a connector road in the Demopolis Industrial Park after industry advocate John Cox Webb.
Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce will lead the ribbon cutting from 5-7 p.m. Thursday off Buddy Griffith Drive where a new, smaller road connects the circular road built in 2023. That smaller road is being named for John Cox Webb, a longtime Industrial Board member who advocated for improved infrastructure in the industrial park for 27 years.
The first key connecting road at the end of Buddy Griffith Drive was built to make the park easier for tenants to navigate and open up 50-plus more acres for new industries to bring their businesses to Demopolis.
The smaller road being named for Webb was built this year connecting that key road. Webb died in March.
While on the Demopolis Industrial Board, Webb and city leaders pushed for 25 years to complete the original $400,000 road in the industrial park after many delays.
The Demopolis Industrial Park has 14 tenants that are mostly wood and paper industries, as well as Foster Farms that makes 1 million corn dogs a day and a metal recycling plant.
Webb served as president of Webb Lumber Co. and director of JF Suttle Co. He also sat on the Alabama Power board of directors for 38 consecutive years. Webb completed two terms on the Demopolis City Council and was Mayor Pro Tempore from 1976-77.
