Revival Coffee revived owner Ryan Bergeron’s career

Ryan Bergeron left the construction business to build a coffee company.

When Ryan Bergeron sought an out from working in construction, a friend suggested the coffee business. Bergeron thought and prayed about the idea, and a few months later Revival Coffee was born.

“Doors began to open when a distant cousin from Louisiana was in the coffee business, and I trained with him,” Bergeron said. “He turned me into a ‘cupper.’”

Bergeron then trained with famous cupper, Mene Alves in New York. Then he was ready and purchased a roasting machine from Turkey, rented a space on Church Street in downtown Selma, and began producing Revival Coffee bags and selling in his town at first. His coffee is now sold in stores throughout Selma and statewide.

“We source our beans through a broker which gives me the option of varying the flavors and kinds of coffee we produce. You could say this entire business I started four years ago is a divine intervention. So many things just worked out,” Bergeron said.

I asked Bergeron if he liked his coffee.

“I like coffee in general, but I love my coffee. We use a higher grade and a higher quality in the beans we purchase. Revival Coffee is one of the best cups you will drink,” Bergeron said. “And I love being in Selma. If a business like this can make it here, anything can make it. We just want to be a beacon of hope. Revival awakens people and gives them hope to be in a better mindset.”

When I suggested Bergeron should go into teaching philosophy on the side, he said he will stick with the coffee for now.
