McRae Learning Center to honor local, national early childhood learning advocates

The McRae Learning Center will honor seven national and local advocates of early childhood learning at a celebratory luncheon at Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) on Aug. 22. 

The 2nd Annual Collins Pettaway, Jr. Scholarship Celebration seeks to benefit children in and around Selma that are 12 months to eight-years-old. 

Candice Pettaway, daughter of Judge Collins Pettaway, Jr., will be the emcee and will talk about her experiences in the early learning classroom through 6th grade at McRae. Camron Alexander Gayle, who is the son of McRae Director Sadie Moss, will be the guest speaker.

Those who will be honored are:

Dr. Charles F. Desmond and Mr. Robert J. Hildreth, McRae co-founder Judge Faya Ora Rose Toure’ Sanders, philanthropist and former Alabama Senator Hank Sanders, longtime Selma educator and McRae Director Sadie Moss, and McRae administrator Mrs.Sarah Nixon and director of cafeteria and kitchen services Ms. Carrie Watters.

The celebration is free but reservations are required and can be done at www.mglcselma.com or by calling McRae Learning Center at 334-872-8078. Donations may be made as well and will go towards scholarships.
