The tourism industry in Perry County received another boost from the National Park Service.

Congresswoman Terri Sewell helped to get another grant to restore historic structures in the county. The Historic Lincoln Normal School received $750,000 for rehabilitation of the gymnasium. 

The funds are part of $3.1 million headed to Congressional District 7 from through the National Park Service's African American Civil Rights Grant Program. 

Lincoln Normal School gym project has been a two-time recipient of the grant. The gym project has received a total of $1.2 million, including this latest award.

The Perry County Commission, through its historic preservation program, continues to support the alums of Lincoln Normal School to recreate the campus for tourism and community use. 

The first award of $750,000 went to Zion Church, which was ground zero for the voting rights movement for its church building stabilization.
