Perry County Schools closed school on Monday because of a threat made Sunday.
In a statement on the district's website, the system said an anonymous threat was received by school officials Sunday morning and the decision to close Monday was because it impacted students, faculty and staff at both R.C. Hatch High School and Francis Marion School.
"(The decision) was made in the best interest of those who learn and work in the building," the statement said.
The district is working with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the matter.
The statement said the closure "reflects that the safety measures PCS has put in place work: when stakeholders see something, they say something. Please use the Anonymous Alerts feature found on the PCS website to report any concerning behavior."
