Patrick Trammell, CEO of Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis

UAB Medicine has officially named M. Patrick Trammell chief executive officer of Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis effective Oct. 1.

Trammell served as interim CEO since July after the retirement of Doug Brewer, who led the hospital for eight years. Trammell has more than 20 years of experience leading community hospitals.

Whitfield Regional Hospital said in a statement that Trammell will continue to lead hospital operations and guide strategic priorities, working with hospital and system leaders to support patient care and continued growth in the region.

“Patrick’s leadership qualities and his deep understanding of community hospitals have been instrumental as we continue to enhance care for patients across the region,” said Charles Singleton, chair of the Whitfield Regional Board of Directors. “During his role as interim CEO, Patrick continuously showed his dedication to Whitfield Regional, to our physicians and staff, and to the people who count on us for care. We look forward to seeing what all we will accomplish under Patrick’s leadership.”

Prior to his role as interim CEO, Trammell served as chief executive officer of Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville, a UAB Health System-managed hospital. During his tenure, he increased inpatient volume through regional partnerships and transitioned key clinical services in-house to improve efficiency, the statement said.

He improved revenue cycle performance and reduced operating losses across employed practices. He also recruited physicians and advanced practice providers to expand access to care in the region.

Earlier in his career, Trammell served as CEO of DeKalb Regional Medical Center, where he led the hospital through corporate restructuring and the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining strong quality and safety performance. He has also held executive roles with Community Health Systems and HCA Healthcare.

Trammell holds a Master of Science degree in health administration and a Master of Business Administration degree from UAB and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
