Robert Tony Sykes has announced he is running for Perry County Sheriff in the May 2026 election.
Sykes is an experienced law enforcement professional from Uniontown, who says in his campaign that he will bring accountability, transparency and community-focused leadership to the Sheriff’s Office.
"As a resident of Uniontown—located in the heart of Perry County—Sykes has deep roots in the community and a personal understanding of the challenges and needs of the people he serves," the statement says.Â
"With years of hands-on experience in law enforcement, Sykes has worked directly with citizens, deputies, and community partners, giving him a clear understanding of public safety, officer professionalism, and the importance of trust between law enforcement and the community," the announcement states. "Throughout his career, he has been committed to protecting citizens while treating everyone with dignity, fairness, and respect."Â
Sykes says he believes effective law enforcement starts with visibility, accountability, and open communication. His decision to run for sheriff is driven by a desire to serve Perry County with integrity, strengthen community relationships, and ensure the Sheriff’s Office operates with transparency and professionalism, he said.
If elected, he plans to focus on crime prevention, deputy training and support and building partnerships that help keep Perry County safe for families, businesses, and future generations.
The primary election is May 19. A primary runoff, if needed, will be June 16 and the general election is Nov. 3.
