Edgar W. Greene Jr., the former district attorney for the judicial circuit that includes Dallas County, died last weekend.
The funeral will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Selma on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m., with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m.. Burial will follow in Carlowville.
Greene spent nearly 50 years as a prosecutor in Alabama. He served in many roles, including as district attorney for the Fourth Judicial District. A Selma native, Greene graduated from The University of Alabama School of Law.
Michael Jackson, who followed Greene as district attorney, honored Greene in 2020 for his public service.
“He was a great prosecutor who prosecuted cases for over 50 years as an assistant DA, chief deputy district attorney, district attorney and later a city prosecutor,” Jackson said. “He was also a great friend. I went to his birthday party at his house when he turned 80. He will be missed.”
Greene and his wife Sandy have two children and five grandchildren.
