A fish fry to show appreciation for local law enforcement is being held on May 11 at Church Street Methodist, sponsored by the US Attorney for the Southern District, the District Attorney, and some area businesses.

The organizations are inviting law enforcement to the fish fry and asking for volunteer help.

The fish fry is part of Police Appreciation to show that the community appreciates the sacrifice they make by wearing a uniform and badge.

The fish fry will be held in the parking lot of Church Street Methodist.

Selma Redevelopment Authority’s Susan Youngblood is asking for volunteers to help with the event.

“Sundown and payday are not the things that these men and women sign on for - nor is it what makes it worth their while to serve,” she said in a statement. “While it would be wonderful to give them what they deserve, I’m afraid a small expression of appreciation is the best we can do.”
