Morgan Academy holds fall sports awards banquet

Morgan Academy varsity cheerleaders were among the honorees at the fall sports banquet.

Morgan Academy held its fall sports banquet for cheerleaders, volleyball players, football players, water girls, field painters and football managers last week.  

Danny Raines, Morgan Academy head football coach and athletic director, presented football awards on Dec. 7.

Varsity football award winners include: Elliott Moseley Coaches’ Award - Milton Hand; Hardy, Haugen, Harrison Award - Davis Fuller; AISA All-Stars - Milton Hand and Davis Fuller; The Hustle Award - Davis Fuller and Ben Duran; Utility Man Award - Will Colquett, Patrick Johnson, Wood Jones and Travis Jones; Most Improved Defensive Player - Jack Johnson and Thomas “Blue” Atchison; Most Improved Offensive Player - Rhett Thomas and Parker Hewston; Outstanding Lineman Award - Caine McLaughlin; Special Teams Player of the Year – Mekhi Thompson; Defensive Player of the Year - Milton Hand and Ryall King; Offensive Player of the Year - Caden Tellier; Most Valuable Player - Milton Hand; and the Raines Heart Award, given in loving memory of Coach Jim Raines - Milton Hand. 

Varsity Water Girls: Madge Minter, Ally Spivey, Millan Beers, Molly Bohannon and Emma Jones. 

Field Painters: Madge Minter, Ally Spivey, Hope Holladay, Lelia Kelly, Anne Hayes Utsey, Anna Grace Ingram, Mary Peyton Meeks, Taylor Roberts, Emma Jones, Libby Pearce and Ames Roberts. 

Flag service - Jack Bearden. Managers: Lance Ward, John Rivers Oliver and Rex Oliver.

Junior Varsity football awards were presented by Coach Chris Williams.

Junior Varsity Football Award Winners include: Most Improved Player - Lane Osborn; Best All-Around Player - Spur McIntyre; Best All-Around Fullback (Lineman) - Parker Hewston; Best Special Teams Player - Wood Spivey; Best Offensive Player - Patrick Johnson; and Best Defensive Player - Thomas Clay Atchison.

Volleyball Awards were presented by Coach Glen Graham. 

Varsity Volleyball Award Winners include: Captain: Emme Albritton; Captain: Lydia Smitherman; Hustle Award: Lydia Smitherman; Coaches Award: MacKenzie King; Most Kills: Emme Albritton; Most Blocks: Emme Albritton; Most Aces: Emme Albritton; Most Digs: Lydia Smitherman; Most Assists: Hadley Verhoff; Senator Strong Award: Brooke Waters, Elle Gibbs, Kylie Calame and Mackenzie King.

Selma Times-Journal All-County: Lydia Smitherman, Hadley Verhoff, Maryn Bergeron, Sarah Moore, Kylie Calame and Lilly McHugh. Selma Times-Journal Player of the Year: Emme Albritton. And AISA West All-Star MVP: Emme Albritton.

Junior Varsity Award Winners include: Captain: Leila Moore; Captain: Ally Odom; Most Improved: Alice King; Hustle Award: Ally Odom; Coaches Award: Ellis Ann McHugh; Senator Strong Award: Leila Moore, Lilly Alsobrook, Lallie Gibbs and Ally Odom

The Varsity Cheerleader Awards were presented by Varsity Cheer Coach Meredith Johnson.

Varsity Cheerleader Award winners include: Rori Wilkinson-senior, head cheerleader, UCA All American; Hope Holladay-senior, co-head cheerleader, UCA All American; Allie Wilkinson-senior, secretary, UCA All American, AISA All Star; Claire Johnson- senior, chaplain, UCA All American, AISA All Star; Lelia Kelly-senior, UCA All American, AISA All Star, UCA pin-it-forward recipient; Anne Frances Pearce-senior, AISA All Star; Anne Hayes Utsey-senior, UCA All American, AISA All Star; Taylor Roberts-senior, UCA All American, AISA All Star and Kathryn Lyon-sophomore, UCA Pin-it-forward recipient. 

The varsity cheerleaders won third at camp dance and third overall in sideline.    

Junior Varsity Cheerleader Award were also presented by Varsity Cheer Coach Meredith Johnson as Kelli Wilkinson was ill. 

Junior Varsity Cheerleader Award winners include: Anna Clay Fuller- freshman Captain and UCA All American; Anna James Wilkinson- Eighth Grade Co-captain; Analeigh Barnes - Eighth Grade Secretary; Leighton Grace Bennett - Eighth Grade Chaplain; Madison Sansom- Eighth Grade; Seventh Grade: Laura Ousley, Bella Roberts, Georgia Sams, Kate Atchison, Milly Pearce, Anna Henri Thomas and Leigh Fuller.

Over the summer, the junior varsity girls competed in the UCA camp and were awarded Sideline first place and Camp Routine third place.
