A woman died while eight others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Montgomery on early Saturday morning.Â
A statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said that the crash occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m.
Angie L. Stone, 63, of Locust Grove, Ga., was a passenger in a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van that was struck by a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia driven by Jared S. Wilkinson, 33, of Skidmore, Tx.
Stone was killed while the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, Leethel Carter, 66, of Atlanta, Ga. and passengers Anthony Majors, Jr., 44, of Atlanta, Ga.; Ashton Evans, 31, of Ellenwood, Ga.; Dontay Dailey, 32, of Stone Mountain, Ga.; James Owens, 33, of Atlanta, Ga.; Sheila Hopkins, 62, of Katy, Texas; Sherie Murphy, 44, of Ellenwood, Ga.; and Sherita Murphy, 44, of Ellenwood, Ga., were all injured and transported for treatment.
The statement from ALEA also said that the Mercedes-Benz had previously been in a single-vehicle crash and overturned before the two-vehicle collision.
They both occurred on Interstate 65 near the 162 mile marker, approximately five miles south of Montgomery.
