Two people were arrested by Pickens County authorities after a year-long investigation into a contraband operation at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Aliceville.

An announcement from the Pickens County Sheriff's Office stated that they worked with FCI investigators to intercept packages that turned out to contain three cell phones, approximately 36 grams of methamphetamine, 347 Suboxone strips, and controlled substances with K2.

The value of the materials is estimated to be more than $100,000, which is "significantly" higher than the street value, said the announcement.

The individuals who were arrested had traveled from Florida to allegedly smuggle the contraband into the facility.

“The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and FCI Aliceville Leadership, remain committed to our shared mission of ensuring public safety," said Sheriff Jordan Powell. "By working together, we are helping keep not only our correctional facilities safe, but also our communities. We will continue to identify, investigate, and prosecute individuals who attempt to introduce illegal narcotics and contraband into our institutions and neighborhoods.”
