Two Black Belt students are among others to be part of the University of Alabama (UA) College of Community Health Sciences' Rural Programs.

UA has taken in the 31st class of Rural Medical Scholars and the fourth class of Rural Dental Scholars in fall 2026.

"These students have already shown they are bright, ambitious and dedicated to serving rural Alabama as primary care physicians and dentists," said Dr. Meghan Rivera, assistant director of CCHS Rural Programs. "We know they will do great things."

Lynn Pham, of Marengo County and Jack Stoudenmire, of Clarke County are in the Rural Dental Scholars Program.

"During the year of study at CCHS, students take biomedical science courses designed to adequately prepare them for a rigorous dental school curriculum," said the press release. "They also participate in seminar courses on rural health and community engagement experiences, and they shadow dental providers."
