The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) will soon begin seeking entries to select a boy and a girl for its 9th annual “Share Your Smile with Alabama” photo contest.

Earlier this year Denia Washington from Martin Luther King, Jr., Elementary School and Chase Johnson from Brewbaker Intermediate School in Montgomery were the winners of the last contest.

The contest is open to third grade students or children of ages 8 to 10 that are homeschooled.

Entries will be accepted from Sept. 22 to Oct. 31. There is no fee to submit entries.

The winners will be featured on ADPH marketing campaigns promoting children's dental health and in a statewide news conference on January 8, 2026.

“We want to remind everyone that healthy oral health habits lead to healthy smiles and tooth decay is almost 100 percent preventable," said State Dental Health Director Dr. Tommy Johnson. "We are sponsoring this annual contest to bring attention to the need for children’s oral health care.”
