A nonprofit agency that serves crime victims in multiple counties, including Montgomery, was among others to receive funding from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).

“Crimes like domestic violence can shatter lives and devastate families, leaving victims in critical need of shelter, healing and help finding justice,” said Gov. Kay Ivey in an announcement. “These organizations offer a safe haven and professional assistance for people looking to rebuild their lives.”

The Huntsville-based AshaKiran received $384,338 to help victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in Jackson, Limestone, Madison and Montgomery counties.

A total of $1.36 million was granted from ADECA.

“These nonprofit groups are valuable resources for the communities they serve,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of these centers and the professionals dedicated to serving crime victims with compassion, care and expertise.”
